There’s been quite a lot of buzz around the Botanics range on the Blogosphere lately, and for good reason – with ranges that span bath, hair and men’s products, and a skincare ranges for brightening, mattifying and soothing skin, amongst other things, there’s something for everyone and every kind of skin problem. I’m a huge fan of their products, having fallen in love with their ‘All Bright’ brightening night cream earlier this year (review here), so when I was on the hunt for something to soothe away my post-winter dry, sensitive skin a few weeks ago, the ‘Ultra Calm’ range seemed the best choice.
The first thing I noticed about ‘Ultra Calm’ was the texture; I’m used to rich, thick night creams, but on first application, it came across as more of a serum, or lotion, which did mean it wasn’t as heavy on the skin – no greasy residue, the morning after – but also meant it wasn’t quite as rich as I’d have liked. Whilst my skin was well-nourished, by morning, it wasn’t quite as soft and dewy as I’d been hoping, leaving me with the impression that it would have been better used as a day cream, in which case this would be a rave review. Instead, I’m slightly underwhelmed with the moisture offered by ‘Ultra Calm’ – although, having switched it to my day time beauty routine for a few weeks, I have noticed my skin tone being much more even.
The verdict
Botanics ‘Ultra Calm’ Skin Calming Night Cream retails for £6.99 from Boots stores, or online.
